The initiative marks a major step toward advanced identity authentication in the Philippines’ rapidly digitizing financial ecosystem.
Why it matters
As cyberthreats grow more sophisticated, OTPs — once viewed as a reliable form of two-factor authentication — have become increasingly vulnerable to phishing, SIM swapping, and social engineering attacks.
SNA aims to eliminate these vulnerabilities by verifying a user’s identity in real time at the network level, without requiring codes, SMS messages, or additional steps.
The initiative is part of G Verify, Globe’s suite of network-powered verification and anti-fraud tools that leverage secure APIs and real-time network intelligence.
For the banking sector, such tools can reduce fraud exposure while improving customer experience.
What they’re saying
“Security and simplicity should always go together,” KD Dizon, vice president and head of Globe Business, said in a press statement.
“Our collaboration with BPI allows us to validate Silent Network Authentication in real-world banking environments, giving Filipinos the confidence to transact safely.”
“At BPI, protecting our clients is central to how we design digital experiences. We constantly seek to uphold the integrity of every customer transaction,” said Alex Seminiano, BPI chief technology officer.
“Through this POC, we are testing an advanced authentication approach that fortifies security while staying completely frictionless. This shows our commitment to ensuring clients are at the center of what we do.”
Zoom in
Globe and BPI — both part of the Ayala Group — are working to replace manual verification steps with automatic, network-level user authentication.
By confirming that the person using a device is the legitimate account owner, SNA reduces fraud risks while removing friction from digital transactions.
State of play
The companies have completed the technical validation of SNA, successfully integrating BPI’s test application with Globe’s Network Exposure Platform (NEP).
This setup enables instantaneous identity verification without sending text messages or requiring additional user actions.
The POC also aligns with global standards under the GSMA and CAMARA frameworks. It forms part of Globe’s wider Open Gateway initiative, which uses APIs to make network capabilities available to enterprises seeking secure, scalable digital solutions.
Between the lines
For BPI, the POC underscores ongoing efforts to explore emerging technologies that secure every transaction.
For Globe, it demonstrates how network intelligence can be unlocked to help financial institutions build trust and improve digital services.
The big picture
Globe is already engaging other major banks and e-commerce platforms to explore broader applications of SNA. The goal: create a more connected digital ecosystem where trust and protection are embedded into every interaction.
“We are shaping a digital future anchored on trust,” Dizon added. “Silent Network Authentication demonstrates how Globe is harnessing network intelligence and partnerships to deliver simpler and smarter digital experiences for Filipinos.”
The initiative supports the Bangko Sentral ng Pilipinas’ call for more adaptive, future-ready financial security measures.
As digital transactions surge nationwide, Globe and BPI’s collaboration signals how industry leaders can jointly redefine secure digital identity for Filipinos and enterprises. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
