Delivered by ocean barge to a dedicated jetty built by Alternergy on Alabat Island, the first two of eight planned 8-megawatt (MW) wind turbines were manufactured by Envision Energy, the company said in a statement on Tuesday, April 8, 2025.
Each turbine features 90-meter blades — about the length of a football field — and a rotor diameter of 182 meters. When installed, the towers will reach 195 meters in height, comparable to Makati City skyscrapers such as RCBC Plaza and Ayala Triangle Garden North.
In the statement, Alternergy and Alabat Wind Power Corp. president Gerry Magbanua said: “The first shipment of the country’s largest wind turbine to date has arrived on Alabat Island, marking a significant milestone for the Alabat Wind Project.”
“The 8-MW wind turbine will efficiently harness the province’s rich wind resources, supporting Quezon’s accelerated energy transition goals while minimizing environmental impact,” he added.
The Alabat Wind Project is the first wind installation in Quezon and the first in the country situated along the Pacific Ocean coastline.
Alternergy expects construction to be completed by the end of 2025, making it a likely candidate for the first wind project commissioned under the Department of Energy’s second Green Energy Auction Program conducted in July 2023.
This project forms part of Alternergy’s broader goal to develop 500MW of renewable energy capacity by 2026. The company currently has five projects under construction spanning wind, solar, and run-of-river hydro technologies.
Alternergy made its public debut on the Philippine Stock Exchange in March 2023 and was added to the PSE Industrial Index in August 2024. It declared its first dividend in December 2024, distributing P118 million to preferred shareholders, including the Government Service Insurance System.
