The financial performance comes as GSIS President and General Manager Wick Veloso was named Asia's Modern Hero for his contribution to “Public Service and Financial Leadership.”
He received the recognition at the Asia's Modern Hero Awards at Okada Manila on Sept. 25.
By the numbers
GSIS net income increased from P74.2 billion in the first half of 2025, while gross income reached P195.38 billion.
Total assets stood at P2.05 trillion as of June 30. The pension fund also paid P94.67 billion in claims and benefits during the first six months of the year.
“This award serves to inspire us to do more, to protect and grow the GSIS fund, to embrace innovation and improve the lives of our stakeholders. Because in the end, leadership is not measured by how high the position we hold, but by the number of lives we touch through our service,” said Veloso.
Member relief
GSIS has also returned close to P20 billion to more than 700,000 members through its Balik Ginhawa program as of Sept. 22.
The refunds covered 1.6 million loan contracts and were intended to provide qualified government employees additional funds for household expenses, education, medical needs and other priorities.
GSIS has also expanded financing programs, including green loan facilities for solar energy and electric mobility, while making affordable financing more accessible through digital channels.
Going digital
The pension fund has accelerated the migration of member services online, with its GSIS Touch mobile application surpassing two million registered users.
The app provides round-the-clock access to services including loan applications, claims, pension-related transactions and the Annual Pensioners Information Revalidation.
GSIS said 99.6 percent of its services have been digitalized, reducing the need for members and pensioners to visit its branches.
Big picture
Veloso assumed the top GSIS post in 2022 after decades in banking and financial markets.
His tenure has focused on strengthening the pension fund, improving investment performance and expanding digital services and member programs.
