The figure represents a P94.9-billion increase, or 7.6 percent, from P1.25 trillion recorded in December 2025, strengthening the state pension fund's financial resources.
The latest figures come as SSS prepares for a leadership transition following the departure of president and CEO Robert Joseph Montes de Claro.
Higher inflows from members, employers
SSS Investment Reserve Fund (IRF) reached P1.31 trillion in the first half of 2026, increasing 6.6 percent from P1.23 trillion at the end of 2025.
Contribution collections rose 6.9 percent to P200.32 billion from P187.44 billion in the comparable period last year, reflecting higher inflows from members and employers.
Meanwhile, benefit disbursements climbed 19 percent to P173.45 billion from P145.73 billion, indicating growing demand for pensions and other social security benefits.
Increase in benefit payments
The increase in benefit payments outpaced contribution growth, highlighting the importance of maintaining sufficient investment reserves and sustainable income streams.
Despite higher disbursements, contribution collections exceeded benefit payments by P26.87 billion during the first six months of 2026.
SSS projects net income exceeding P100 billion by year-end, with total assets expected to reach P1.5 trillion by December 2026.
The agency manages its investment reserves under Republic Act No. 11199, or the Social Security Act of 2018, which mandates prudent investment practices to support long-term pension obligations.
While the latest figures indicate a growing financial base, sustaining the pension fund's long-term viability will depend on investment performance, contribution collections, and the pace of benefit payments. —Vanessa Hidalgo | Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
