Under the partnership, Movem’s electric buses (e-buses) will be integrated into the regular operations of CityLink Coach Services Inc., which transports residents, workers, and daily commuters across Megaworld townships in Metro Manila.
The pilot rollout began in April with the deployment of the first e-bus unit at McKinley Hill in Taguig City. A second unit is scheduled for deployment at Newport City in Pasay by December.
Expansion to more townships through 2026
As part of Megaworld’s long-term plan to fully electrify its inter-township transport system, Movem’s e-buses will also be deployed in Uptown Bonifacio and in upcoming township routes in the Visayas.
A total of nine additional units are slated for rollout by 2026, expanding the fleet and gradually replacing internal combustion engine (ICE) buses currently in operation.
Each electric bus can accommodate 24 seated and 11 standing passengers. The e-buses will operate alongside existing ICE units during the transition period, with the latter set to be phased out in stages.
Movem will also develop EV charging infrastructure within Megaworld townships to ensure efficient fleet management and maximum operational uptime.
Shared vision for sustainable mobility
Megaworld head of estate management Don Earl Caagbay said the collaboration supports the developer’s commitment to building sustainable, future-ready communities.
“This partnership is a vital step towards fulfilling our vision of building sustainable townships across the Philippines… This partnership with Movem is just the beginning of bringing this vision to reality,” Caagbay said.
For Movem, the project demonstrates how coordinated efforts between developers and mobility providers can accelerate the shift to greener transport.
“We are committed to continue supporting Megaworld to accelerate their electric mobility initiatives,” Movem COO Maria Francesca Defensor said. “It is through working with like-minded partners that we can drive the Philippines’ journey towards cleaner and greener transportation.” —Ed: Corrie S.
