BDO Unibank Inc. has installed a currency exchange machine that converts US dollars, euros and Japanese yen into pesos without requiring customers to fill out forms or seek assistance from a bank teller.
The service caters to both foreign and local travelers who want access to local currency immediately after arriving in the country.
24-hour service
Located in front of the BDO branch after the immigration and arrival gates, the machine operates 24 hours a day, seven days a week.
It can accept up to 30 banknotes in a single transaction and authenticates the bills before processing the exchange. Customers receive the peso equivalent in bills and coins, as well as a printed transaction receipt.
The machine uses BDO’s prevailing foreign exchange rates for transactions.
“Travelers today expect convenience at every touchpoint of their journey,” said BDO executive vice president and branch banking group head Cora A. Mallillin.
“With the launch of the currency exchange machine, we’re giving customers greater flexibility and control over their forex needs. In just a few simple steps, they can securely access peso with no delays,” she added.
How it works
To make a transaction, users first select the foreign currency they want to exchange and accept the terms and conditions.
They must then scan their passport, after which the machine takes their photo for identity verification.
Travelers can next insert their foreign banknotes, review the amount for conversion and confirm the peso equivalent before collecting their cash and transaction receipt.
The automated process eliminates the need to fill out forms or transact with a teller.
Automated banking
The currency exchange machine adds to the growing number of automated banking services being offered as customers increasingly seek faster and more convenient transactions.
For BDO, placing the service at the country’s busiest international gateway allows arriving passengers to obtain pesos before leaving the airport for transportation, accommodation or other immediate expenses. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
