Ang Misyon Inc. (AMI) —through its flagship program, the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth (OFY) — was honored as Music Foundation of the Year at the first-ever Filipino Music Awards (FMA) held on Oct. 21, 2025, at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.

Launched in August 2025, the Filipino Music Awards marks a new era in recognizing the country’s vibrant and diverse music industry.

Celebrating Filipino musical excellence

The FMAs celebrate Filipino artistry across genres, generations, and communities—paying tribute not only to performers but also to individuals and institutions shaping the future of local music.

Among this year’s special honors, the Legacy Awards were given to outstanding individuals and organizations that have made significant contributions to the advancement of Filipino music.

One of the distinguished awardees was Ang Misyon, lauded for its transformative work in classical music education and youth empowerment.

Championing access to music education

Since its founding, Ang Misyon—through the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth—has provided free classical music education to more than 1,200 young scholars who otherwise would not have had the means to pursue formal training. The organization’s mission is to make orchestral music accessible to the youth and use it as a vehicle for positive social change.

Ang aming success ay nasusukat sa dami ng mga kabataang Pilipino na aming natutulungan, nahuhubog, at nabibigyan ng pag-asa ng magandang kinabukasan,” said Mickey Muñoz, executive director of Ang Misyon, in a press statement. (Our success is defined by how many young Filipinos we have guided, shaped, and inspired with hope for a brighter future.)

“Ito ang aming mission, passion, advocacy, at legacy—ang ipamamana namin sa kabataang Pilipino ngayon at sa mga susunod na henerasyon.”  (This is our mission, passion, advocacy, and legacy—the gift we will pass on to today’s Filipino youth and to the generations that will follow.)

Sustained by vision and leadership

Ang Misyon expressed its deep gratitude to Federico R. Lopez, chair and CEO of First Philippine Holdings Corp., whose vision and support have been instrumental in sustaining the organization’s mission of transforming lives through music. The group also extended appreciation to Shirley Cruz, vice president of Ang Misyon, for her steadfast guidance and advocacy.

Their shared belief in music as a catalyst for change continues to inspire the Ang Misyon community to nurture excellence, promote inclusivity, and empower the next generation of Filipino musicians and leaders.

A legacy in harmony

By bridging art, education, and social purpose, Ang Misyon and the Orchestra of the Filipino Youth are redefining what it means to make music with meaning—proving that every note played in harmony can resonate far beyond the concert hall. —Ed: Corrie S. Narisma
